Have you heard of Birth Smart? Birth Smart is a non profit organization founded by Leah Pabst, dedicated to educating parents about their birth choices. They kind of gather all of the information in one place and put it all out there for you to form your own opinion. They host, monthly “Belly Talk” discussions with a variety of topics and speakers to answer questions and help you make informed decisions. “Film Fests” are held annually and “Story Circles” where women get together and share their birth experiences are held twice a year. I’ve been photographing thier events for several months now as their philosophies are near and dear to my heart. Getting behind Birth Smart was a no brainer for me.
You can help Birth Smart by donating you’re used baby and maternity gear for their annual Baby Gear Sale. Just drop off your good quality items at the Cumulus Radio KEKB studios. If you hurry, you’ll even get a coupon for 10% off at Kairo’s Children’s Boutique in Downtown Grand Junction. They are looking for all things maternity and baby related. Books, toys, maternity and baby clothes up to a size 2T, if a baby needs it, then Birth Smart could use it. I just did a de-stash. Their getting an almost new stroller in a stroller bag, a brand new in the box Avent breast pump, a pile of peek-a-blocks and some almost new girly Gymboree clothes from me.
They will also be auctioning a handmade quilt created by the students in Mrs. Bobbi Hutchison’s 3rd grade class at Fruitvale Elementary. The quilt was created in the memory of Billy Stow.
Then, Join Birth Smart at Colorado Baby, 203 Grand Avenue on the corner of 2nd and Grand in Grand Junction, on Saturday, September 24, 2011 for the sale. They will be there from 9am till 2pm for some great deals!
And because no post should go without pictures, here’s a few from some of the recent Birth Smart events.
Leah loves the babies.
Birth Smart thanks their sponsors for this event: Birth n Babies, KEKB, Colorado Baby, Kairo’s Chidrens Boutique and Mesa Midwives.
