ordinary everyday life | week 2

This weeks theme was “portrait” and I felt it was a perfect opportunity to take the kids out and get updated pictures for our wall. The snow threw me at first. It wasn’t in my plan but plans change and one thing I’ve learned about being a completely on location photographer is to just roll with what you’ve got. Actually, I kind of like the freedom of a cloudy day. The clouds become a giant softbox that just kind of glow light everywhere with no harsh shadows at all. It’s the muck of a 40 degree snowy day that I don’t like. I let out a big sigh and asked the kids if they were game for our hike or if we should make other plans. I promised them we wouldn’t be out in the cold too long and we jumped in the car and were on our way before we could change our minds. We headed to the Independence Monument trail head. This trail is one of our favorite places to play. It’s a good strenuous hike, but it’s not so difficult that the kids complain at all and at five miles round trip, it’s the perfect length for a day hike.
